  • An employee at a 24-hour Safeway store in San Jose was fatally shot in the course of a robbery Sunday morning. The thief was allegedly stealing liquor from that section of the store, and shot the employee around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. [KTVU]
  • Elon Musk has made his threat to walk away from the deal to buy Twitter formal, putting it in a letter dated today. Musk and his lawyers seem to see Twitter’s alleged refusal to disclose better data about bot accounts as the “material adverse effect” that could allow Musk to walk away from the deal without paying a $1 billion penalty.   • No charges are being filed in the May 27 crash that killed longtime Chez Panisse Wine Director Jonathan Waters. Investigators determined that Waters, who was on his bicycle, made a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle at 10:30 p.m. that night at Shattuck Avenue and 55th Street. [Chronicle]
  • Another California high school student was arrested over the weekend for making threats against his school, this time in Riverside County, and the student was found with a ghost gun in his possession. [East Bay Times]
  • Police in Cotati, in Sonoma County, arrested a woman following a destructive, allegedly drunken spree of ramming cop cars and resisting arrest, after the father of her child went to the police station to accuse her of driving drunk and endangering his child. [KTVU]
  • Former Senator Barbara Boxer, now mostly retired to Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs, is working to help flip her congressional district down there back to Democratic after it recently went Republican. [Chronicle]
  • Sunday morning’s rain broke a nearly 90-year-old record for daily rainfall in San Francisco for June 5, set in 1934 — but the highest rainfall totals were in the North Bay, and helped reduce the immediate fire danger there. [NWS Bay Area/Twitter]
